OUR FIGHT TO CONTAIN HEALTHCARE COSTS
HEALTHCARE COSTS THE BACKGROUND
Over the past three years, AAON, the State’s Actuarial firm, has recommended increases of over 40% in healthcare premiums for State workers. Thanks to our strong contract language, CWA successfully protected your contributions from the full impact of these massive increases, saving you thousands of dollars. We need reform now to reign in skyrocketing healthcare costs that are making it harder and harder to make ends meet and crushing New Jersey working families.
THE PROBLEM
- Rising premium costs have led to pressure to increase out of pocket expenses for members to control the premium increases.
- The State Health Benefits Commission is responsible for administering our health benefits, but with management having more representation than Labor on this board, they continue to block our cost-saving proposals.
- As healthcare costs continue to skyrocket, healthcare premiums will be one of the biggest challenges we will face in future contract negotiations.

THE SOLUTION: We are fighting to pass legislation this year to contain healthcare
costs, make our healthcare more affordable, and give state workers equal representation on the State Health Benefits Commission.
- Require affordable premiums for Local government workers.
- Require cost-controls for healthcare services and medications.
- Improve governance and transparency of how healthcare rates are calculated.
THE ASK: Stand together as public workers and support this three pronged proposal to address healthcare affordability, cost
control, governance and transparency. Scan the QR Code below and commit to participating in our June 4th Healthcare Rally. Help us help you.
